How to Prepare Transparent PNG Artwork for DTF

A transparent PNG helps keep unwanted background areas out of a DTF transfer. Before ordering, check the background, finished dimensions and quality of the original artwork.

Start with the correct file

The DTF transfer product requires PNG artwork with a transparent background. A white rectangle is still part of an image unless it has been removed. Check the file against a contrasting background so you can spot unwanted edges or a leftover box.

Set the final print size

Build the artwork at the dimensions you want printed. Changing a resolution label alone does not add detail to a small image. For example, a 10-inch-wide design at 300 pixels per inch needs 3,000 pixels across. Start from the original high-resolution artwork or vector source whenever possible.

The current transfer listing specifies a maximum print size of 22 × 60 inches and a 1/8-inch safety margin on every side. Confirm a larger format before preparing or ordering it.

Arrange gang sheets carefully

A gang sheet can contain repeated designs or several different graphics. Check the size of each individual design, leave room to separate them, and keep all artwork inside the safe area. Inspect fine lettering at its actual printed size.

Check before submitting

  • Confirm spelling, phone numbers and logo details.
  • Remove any background that should not print.
  • Keep the original editable file in case adjustments are needed.
  • Label separate designs and sizes clearly.

DTF transfers need a heat press. Follow the product’s pressing guidance and test your fabric and equipment before a production run. UV DTF transfers are a different product intended for compatible hard surfaces.
